    Patch antennas

    http://www.readymaderc.com/store/ind...oducts_id=1053

I have 2 of these antennas that are right hand circular polorized and I want to run a patch antenna. Do I need a CP patch also or will this work?

How much benefit is there to running that CP antenna over a linear polerized with a patch antenna? Can I switch back forth between CP and LP with the same patch either LP or CP? Which patch would be best to buy since I have both LP-CP Tx antennas?

    Hi Jerry,

You should use CP on the ground if you are using CP on the plane. Using linear on the ground would add 3dB losses (polarization losses), and most important at 5.8GHz, you will get no multipath rejection.

Regarding your second question, I have never seen a patch antenna with double polarization (linear/circular).

    Regards.

Is the TBS 14dbi antenna (Lcom) a CP or linear patch? Anyone know? Doesn't say anything on the website or the Antenna.

It is a linear patch. I included a link to it on the L-Com site. The 2nd link is actually 2 links. Click on the Ready Made link then move over to the right for the same antenna on L-Com site. Then scroll up to find the CP patch antenna.

I may have not made my question clear, supose I bought the CP patch Rx antenna then I wanted to switch between the LP and CP antennas on my Tx. Now the Tx CP and Rx CP patch would match, BUT what if I ran a Tx LP and a Rx CP, is that the 3Db loss?

I am getting, that if I run a CP Tx I need to run a CP Rx

a cp antenna will work with a linear antenna... but you'll suffer a -3dbi loss and loose all the benefits that cp antennas have to offer. Best to match cp with cp, dosnt matter if its RP or LP so long as both the Tx and Rx match
