Skylark AAT Suite (Skylark Auto Antenna Tracker + Skylark Trace OSD)

    Package contents.

    Skylark Trace OSD

Setting up the OSD is really simple, the provided documentation is sufficient. The only thing required is adding plugs to your VTx, and Camera. The nice thing about this unit is that power is passes through up to 12v to VTx and camera. Not 100% sure if its ok to use lower if required. (Lack of documentation)

Skylark Trace OSD (?= program mode for firmware update)

    Provided documentation.

My partially completed Harness. (Need to braid)

    OSD connected ready for testing.

Thats 5 Sats in my basement! Quick boot times too!

    So far:

    Pros:
    + Small Light Weight
+ Easy Connection (Plug 'n Play)
    + Long Wires
    + Quick Boot
    Cons:
    -Lack of documentation
    -Configurability
-OSD must be powered by 5v source to have video. (Not a pass-through setup)

OSD works flawlessly! Its basicly Plug and play!

    Tracker.

The construction on this is just sweet. I really like the case and the way the wiring is setup on this. (Pass-through for VRx) (AV In and out)

What I really like is how easy it is to mount it up on a tripod. The cam has a threaded hole perfect for a tripod mount.

    Hole.

    Tripod mount.

    As one!

The only issue mounting it up was that the provided bracket bind/hit the cables coming out of the CAM. Not a big deal. Was planning on making my own either way to better suit my needs.

    Not good.

    Provided documentation.

Tracker In Action. Bit long but put some music in it.

    Live feed with tracker.

    Pros:
    + Plug - N - Play
+ Doesn’t have to be stationary (need further testing)
+ Works with Long Wave Length Video Transmitters (910,1010,etc..)
    + Easy Mounting

    Cons:
    - Limited Weight (Can’t have too much weight on the tracker)
    - No external GPS display (if in simple OSD mode no way to extract position if you crash)
    - Need 2 batteries to be plug and play. (For my setup i need to make a harness if I want one power source, since everything I run is 12v)

    Conclusion:

This is a great medium range tracker/OSD combo. Why only medium range? Well when your less than 50 feet away from “Home”, the trackers default position is upright. But you can change that in the settings. Yes, however if you’re flying overhead you’re going to run into the risk of being out of optimal FOV of your antenna. Another reason, is if you’re like me flying on 900mhz, the tracker is incapable of effectively tracking heavy equipment. So no yagi’s for me. I plan on switching over to 2.4 in the near future and will see how it handles the high gain antennas. However overall, I am satisfied with the purchase, and do plan on purchasing more OSD’s capable with the tracker when the funds become available.

Make sure Comp port maches with the one in Device Drivers

The software tries to be nice simple, easy to use. However, even with v3 out, I’m still having issues with connecting to the OSD/tracker on the correct com port, instead it stays connected to "State". (Win 7 64bit Machine). For now I use an old WinXp laptop to get by. I think it would be nice if there was a drop down menu to select the correct Com Port, along with a way to verify current settings.

I will contiune to update this thread with my findings and conclusions, Im pretty sure I have missed something along the way.
