Love the video set up .going to need something like that for my baby. And a couple points . Derp 220km round trip? I was thinking 111 km didn't realize that is one way.

On question? How does one define a glider ? No motor. Both this plane and the techpod are powered. I see no gliders. And that camera flapping in the wind sucks for drag.
Would like to go head to head with a set up like this some day ( same thermals)

Wayne, I think you are missing the point.

Roberto isn't going for endurance, he's going for distance LOS. His technical achievements are centered around getting the RC signal to the plane and the video signal back to him. Your technical achievements are centered around developing a highly efficient powered plane that's good for crusing around. I'm sure yours does thermal but it's strength is (or should be) about making efficient use of the onboard power to haul the plane around for the longest time possible.

I wanted to fly for hours I'd use a glider, but the techpod seems like it would be great for efficient powered.

Yes Wayne there are powered gliders. I know - it gives me a headache too. (See "motor gliders"). Just check out http://www.espritmodel.com/albatros-3se-arf.aspx (and other offerings from Espirit) and you can see the "format" for a proper glider.

I'd say that the Techpod probably fits in the powered sport plane category (believe it or not). If the numbers you've put out there are true - then it's powered flight efficiency is going to dominate. BUTTT - again, the best gliders out there will kill it - and it won't even be close. A hard-core soarer like Roberto wouldn't compete w/ the TP as their weapon of choice. Roberto's in a class of his own - and using a plane that is not really the best available for his flying style, which makes his achievments even that more special.

With that said - I want a Techpod. Now - back to the regularly scheduled programming of Roberto's epic flight.

Wayne, I don't know if you have seen Roberto's 100km flight but he only used motor power for 54 seconds which was just to gain altitude. That's how you define a glider. The techpod seems cool but you are comparing apples to oranges my friend. Rock on Roberto.

I love how in the first real thermal you go from 5100 feet to 9200 feet. That, my friend, is thermalling....
    About to maiden my Fascination...
