Kinda reminds me of the old days of building crazy wifi antennas back when hardly anyone had wifi (802.11 "b" days) and people were making some really crazy antennas so they could steal free Wifi from anyplace that had it. One really good one was an antenna using a USB wifi dongle and a mesh fryer strainer. This kinda looks like that.... Or a really uncomfortable sex toy. One of the two.

So you will be able to get incredibly long range from the 5.8 ghz vtx, but what do you do about the RC TX? Are you using UHF, 72mhz, or 2.4ghz?

Hello! If you are referring to me, I am using an EzUHF LRS!

I don't have much info on the immersion gear, but it's a known fact that 200mw Foxtec gets about the same range as 600mw immersionrc, due to a more sensitive rx.
As far as range goes with a 12 turn I'd say safe range would be between 8 and 12 km on a good setup.

I use a DragonLink UHF at 433-435 mhz... on stock 500mw...
When I need to go more than 10 miles I use a directional antenna on the transmitter, that allows me to have 100% rssi even 5 miles away...

How do you know where to point it? Do you mount the RCTX on a tracker and then run a long cable to the inputs on your TX? Or do you use some kind of relay system?

Point it in the same direction as your plane.

What if you fly behind yourself? Or out of the beam? Its not like you can see the plane at that range.
