    FPV Solstice 2018

Custom made one of a kind hand stamped T-shirts made by Stew and the Lost Wings guys!

This last weekend the west coast guys finally got their heads out of their asses and threw a wing event. It was years overdue but who cares, turned out to be the best FPV event I have ever been too and something very special for those who were there. In the future, I am sure it will grow and be ruined by crowds of noobs all asking dumb questions but this time it was 20 of the best FPV fixed wing pilots doing what they do best, fly an epic and challenging spot for three days with style and purpose that only some of you may understand.

The San Juan Ridge mine is central to California's gold country and its lasting heritage, a permanent reminder of our foolish and naive past. Giant water monitors blasted the land away and left a giant scar, a place in great contrast to the wilderness right up the road and places like this are famous for the damage done to rivers and farmland below in the valley. The terrain features a desert like wasteland with steep cliffs still displaying placer gravel layers and still containing a shit load of gold! The trees were a mix of young stunted pines and manzanita perfectly spaced everywhere to provide obstacles and challenge for even the best. We managed to at least find a patch of grass to land on, but launches were tenuous for some. The best part was the elevation changes and the challenges of taking advantage of it while keeping video signal. The “titties” or twin peaks right in the middle of the area was a favorite stage for more than a few dramas when Tony, Kyle and Dave met with them (motor-boating sons-of-bitches!).

I want to thank Eli right off the bat for throwing this event, securing the location and inviting all the cats to come. Without him this event wouldn’t have happened, and many helped him accomplish the task. Kyle, Nathan, Tony and Justin all lending hands to help facilitate, keeping us safe, equipped and in the right place.

This event was thrown without sponsors, without any official organization, it was truly grassroots and invite only and there wasn't a race even mentioned. Therefore, this post will read more like a camping trip report than your typically FPV event thread, but I brought some FPV entertainment along to share as well.

Ruben from Sweepwings was there, and we all sat down around the campfire to record for the FPV RAW podcast, the only podcast exclusively focued on FPV wings! So sit back and find 2 hours to burn and listen to this while checking out the media from all these great pilots who came on out to play: https://directory.libsyn.com/episode/index/show/sweepwingsrcpodcast/id/6739753

The #solsticefpv2018 tag URL will be a great place to follow the media as it comes out, almost everyone there has a IG account and posts FPV stuff: https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/solsticefpv2018/

Youtubes posted to the thread as they come out...

The cast of attendees was grand and included:
