    FAA Reauthorization Bill 2017

Today some senators announced a new bill:

Looks like your only hope is to try and get legislators to draw a very clear distinction between traditional RC model aircraft and the likes of the Phantom Menace. I have my own battle with politicians and they're just as stupid and ignorant at a local level:

Reviewed the full text for "drone", it's only mentioned once in a placeholder section with nothing in it. They may want to fully regulate RC out of existence, but they haven't decided how they're going to go about that yet. If they do actually go back to stakeholders like last time, then AMA will end up shoved in a corner again and wearing a dunce cap.

    They are inseparable.

And there really no such thing as a Phantom Menace other in the narrow minds of some.

It will be hard to write anything that regulates one without the other but the phantom menace is why we are in this predicament in the first place. Johnny Six Pack and his white "drone" are a real thing that needs to be understood to get us through this.

Not really, so called knowledgeable people where doing stupid stuff with RC aircraft long before the Phantom came along.

The only difference is the Phantom by it's sheer numbers is getting all the blame.

lots of dumb RC shenanigans have happened in the past, but now you can open a DJI box and break a handful of ama rules and FAA guidelines on your maiden flight so the blame is well placed. How to fix it for all of us is the tough part. Identifying where the problem exists is an important first step. Throwing DJI to the wolves however would be a very short sighted solution.

You shouldn’t look for the word drone, but for "Unmanned Aircraft Systems". It’s quite a lot to read in the full text. I didn’t have time to read it until now.

This is a never-ending fight... The problem is it only takes one loss and it is downhill from there. It is very difficult to re-instate freedoms once they are taken away.

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

Well said, the problem is the lone "advocate" in our corner seems to only support the good ol' boys flying in boring circles from approved fields.
