    Mini Spark

I just finished building my Mini Spark. I chose to laminate it, and everything went together pretty easily.

I just have a question about the rudder. In your video you cut it to 6.5" but when I look at it on my plane, it looks freakishly tall.

In the Gremlin thread you mentioned that the control surface of the rudder should not rise higher above the wing plane than the section below it.

I wish I took pics of yours at the meet. Any chance you could share one for reference?

I slanted my rudder backwards some which made it look shorter. Slanting backwards also brings the nose up in a turn and keeps it level.

Fly it with the tall tail first and see how you like it. If you want it to feel like ailerons, cut it down to 5" tall. 6" tall feels like a coordinated turn.

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

Is the wing supposed to be straight or built with dihedral.?

I've just finished my Mini Spark and test flew it today. Initially it kept diving into the ground but eventually after winding in a lot of up elevator (all my trim plus more!)I got it in the air. The CoG is spot on the 9" mark and under power she now flies great, quite lively (maybe even slightly tail heavy) but what should I do to get rid of all of this trim? Do I need to alter my thrust line?

The reason for the trim is the tail section is flat and thus there is no cradle for the elevator to fit in and thus it probably went in a little crooked. I would not be too concerned over the amount of trim. Just adjust the servo horn so you can take the trim out of your radio. If you can take the tail off and tilt it forward, that would be another option.

Side note: mine has the same amount of up-trim in it.

Sorry I missed this. it should have 1" dihedral in the wings.

I just build one of your Spark mini's. I put some extra carbon in the fuselage and made a spar for the wings using a .8x4mm and laminated the biggest part of the plane. I also installed the ailerons. I am using a Cobra 1407 3500kv motor and I made enuf room to be able to use 5" props if I choose too. The only question I have so far is my AUW with lipo is around 300 grams, is this weight going to be a problem? Or do you think it will fly fine around that weight?
