    Simple question:

Is there anyone that use a satellite link to communicate with their RC?

this would involve having access to a satelite. This is how military flies their RPAs but I dont think any civilians have the ability.

    Does GPS count?
Some fly for attitude, others for altitude

With enough $$ you can put up your own satellite

There are many satellites up there, perhaps there is one or more that are accessible to civilian use, like Blizzard says, GPS works with satellites, some are military use only but probably 75% of people here have either a Garmin, smartphone with GPS capacities... maybe there's a way to use a satellite link to control our RC, a legal way of course!

There was some talk about sending up an easystar to circle around at 400' on a waypoint cycle above the launch point. This could carry a video receiver on an omni and beam it down via another frequency to the ground station. The complexity of this probably defeats whatever fresnel zone gain you get.

Latency would be the problem unless you are using a low earth orbit satellite like Iridium or Globalstar... expensive.

I've always thought about this, using Iridium wiht a phone link....but they are not reliable, a backup autopilot would be required...
