    1.3 helical or pepper box?

    Hi Alex.

I have a 1.3 ground station with two Lawmate, an eagle eye, a rhcp mad mushroom and a 9.5 dbi helical antenna. All this equipment is mounted in back of the reflector plate of the helical. I don't use an AAT, I aim the station manually.

I always try to flight as far away as posible (battery limitations only) and I want to change my good and reliable helical for a pepper box or a cross hair.

    What do you recommend?

    Kind regards.

    Arthur from Argentina.

The Pepper box will give you the most freedom to wander left and right. A crosshair will give you more distance. For my use the pepperbox is the best choice.

I have a tracker setup with a crosshair and Bluebeam with the eagleeyes. I also have another setup with a pepperbox and bluebeam on Clearview XLR. The tracker never gets used and the pepperbox now lives in my jeep. I think it's the best setup I have ever used.

Thank you all. My helical is a very nice antenna but I must move it constantly to follow the plane and the eagle eye change to the madmuhsroon when I am really close. I already buy a pepperbox and a crosshair from fpv to replace the helical. Photo with the new rigs when I have it.

Thank again to all of you.

    Kind regards.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier.

    Here's my take on it:

If the helical is not limiting you (ie battery is your limitation) and you are not nervous about flying out of the beam, then stick with the helical.

If you tend to wander out of the beam, get a pepperbox.

Mind you this - Your Eagle Eyes is not doing you any favors when you go for long range. You might find it is better to go without it and therefore I encourage you to try with just the helical. This will tell you if you are getting to the edge of the helical beam. If you switch to a papperbox, I highly recommend not using the Eagle Eyes until you see the results with the pepperbox. The peperbox was designed to replace tracking and diversity in one unit.

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.
