Intertgration that makes sense... OSD, VTX, PDB, FC Best practices

    Here's the TL:dr

Manufacturers, Stop putting an OSD in flight controller or PDB. Pilots, stop buying them.

If you integrate, the OSD belongs in the VTX, or possibly the camera. No other situation is IDEAL.

Let's take the zoomed out view of a minimultirotor with OSD and FPV. A boatload of watts, chopped up as square waves, at very high frequency. So it's noisy, powerline wise and radiation wise. Every high current trace and wire is a unshielded antenna radiating RF noise.

Analog video signals should be shielded and cross ESC and noisy power lines at 90 degree angles. Running video from camera to (PDB/FC) ensures this will NOT happen and the Signal to noise ratio will be severely impaired.

If you got plenty of space, you can run ferrite beads, etc. But space is at a premium, beads are huge and heavy and hey! the serial digital (OSD) signals require no special care or shielding. I can't think of one benefit, only downsides to integrating an OSD to the center PDB/flight controller.

In the evolution of integration, the OSD with PDB/FC is a wrong turn. The analog Systems need clean power, and spatial separation from hi current power lines. There will always be measurable improvement in signal to noise if we stop this suboptimal integration.

    VTX and OSD integrated products

FuriousFPV Innova VTX 25mw/200mw and OSD, change power and channel, wirelessly, through your video feed and RC TX, no digging for your VTX button or squinting for LEDs
http://furiousfpv.com/product_info.php?products_id=76 dronin? and betaflight support at this time.

Impulse RC 25-200-500mw switchable, multiple cascaded filters/voltage regulators, voltage inputs to 40v! http://impulserc.com/helix-video-transmitter-board

    Diatone 0.25-600mw switchable 5.8ghz
http://www.diatoneusa.com/store/p234..._600mw-Pigtail if your going to be this big (37x37), I think an input video switcher would add much value.

Sparky VTX, the open source design and software is not yet finalized...

    Camera and OSD integrated products

Everyone's favorite HS1177 Name/callsign, voltage, timer. displayed items can be optionally be moved, calibrated. Retail $39 (which is basically the OSD for free, with zero interference and clean power guaranteed)

Piggyback OSD for camera, zero footprint.

FuriousFPV PIGGY OSD Sized for hs1177, Runcam Swift, etc. OSD Integrated into camera you're already using.
http://furiousfpv.com/product_info.php?products_id=77 mwosd, multiosd, kvosd, has version with custom firmware for kiss FC too.

I'll try and keep this updated with any new products. Let's remember that the noise is cumulative: though the VTX/VRX is subject to breaking up, we should still try and have fidelity in the video signal.

    MISC

Sirin isn't an ideal product, but the engineering isn't a crime against analog like OSD-PDB

    Sirin FPV
https://www.airbladeuav.com/products...d-vtx-blackbox any spatial separation you can get from the high current lines will be beneficial, and at least all the small signals are in one place, and on one clean power supply.

    Firefly Q6
Hawkeye is smart and includes voltage OSD on the FPV out for Firefly q6 HD cam. Latency is ok, only 20 ms more than a runcam Eagle, a great added feature would be a separate current sensor pin. 45g is awesome for a FPV, OSD and 1080P60 setup. Gyro stabilization looks ridiculously good on a fixed wing, in my opinion.

FuriousFPV has yet to respond via Facebook or email, to fulfill their obligation to make the source available.

The good people at ImpulseRC made sure The source was available before shipping their product, with their changes to MWOSD. ( https://github.com/PickwickGroup/sca.../impulserc_vtx )

For this reason, and the fact that it's got a better thought out feature set, actual power filtering, etc, indicates ImpulseRC Helix VTX is the Best solution.

All of the VTX settings are flight controller software agnostic, so you can use it with any vehicle or no vehicle, as long as you have MWosd serial in.

Thanks for the info - here are a couple more for your list. furious also has the passado and RunCam just came out with the swift 2 which takes an unfiltered vbat in and has an integrated osd in the camera:
