Why are race gates so expensive?

Just curious how companies justify the prices of race gates?

Assuming that racing is a team sport allows them to sell at prices more in line with "everybody pitch in $20 bucks for the gate fund". Capitali$m?

Because that is what the market will bear, as long as folks are willing to spend a dollar for a dime of stuff the markup will ensure that happens.

Conversely, if you think you can provide an equal or better product at a lower price by all means go for it.

The guy who organises our local events managed to get us some gemfan gates and flags for free! I guess the idea being that they get free advertising at our events.
But I do agree they are expensive! I'm pretty happy with my cheap pool noodle gates.

I just made 2 4ft high 5ft wide gates and a 4ft high post of pool noodles, 1/2 inch pvc and driveway markers.
A friend I fly with regularly also did the same and I plan to add more to the collection.
We also have some of those bright orange flat maker cones for marking the path.

Why is there a need for any name brand or logo, that is unless the owner of that name or brand is paying for the advertising they are receiving?

Do you think anyone gets a square inch of advertising at a sporting event for free, hell no at it all sold under a contract and that applies from the Little League to the Major Leagues.

IMO, anyone who pays out of their own pocket to promote someone else's products meets the criteria of this well known comment "there's a sucker born every minute."

Just build your own from PVC pipe and pool noodles. Use Krylon paint to make them cool colors. Cheap and easy.

Agree, I built mine for nothing from ripped tent's GF poles

If you're a noob, copy 1:1 what somebody already flies without too much questions, you'll find the answers later.
