Pharos antenna, the world's first smart antenna.

I am proud to introduce you the Pharos antenna.
In a nutshell, the Pharos is a solid state antenna tracker usable for both ground station and aerial. It is now compatible with pixhawk autopilot and eagletree is in the work. More info here

Imagine a hand-held tacking GS that keep tracking whenever you change orientation, move on foot or on board a vehicle, this is possible with the pharos.

A kickstarter campaign will be up soon.

Very interesting. I presume this will be limited to 5.8ghz due to size/weight constraints. Although I suppose one made just for ground stations would be ok.

Well, I see the specs list it as a 5.8 unit but I don't see why he couldn't design a 3.3 one I would think it would still be plenty small enough for a decent sized craft...

Neat stuff. I'm curious how the EagleTree compatibility will work... I presume there will be an update to the EagleEyes station firmware to allow connection of a GPS, so the Pharos will know if the grounstation has moved?

Looks like a really cool idea.

Are you planning on supporting other frequencies?

In its simplest version the pharos work with the eagle eye (it have a pwm port and work just like a pan servo) but doe not provide a dynamic home point. A more advanced version have its own GPS/IMU/MAG and a teensy board (like arduino) that calculate the new bearing in real time.

A professional version including everything above and a microhard modem is also being tested. This ultimately become a AIO serial/IP wireless link.

The core board can handle 0 to 6GHz, I just need to design an antenna for 3.3 or 2.4 that fit inside.

what kind of gain are we talking for a flyable 2.4 version? this could make long range very interesting.

Oh baby make that sucker for 2.4 or 1.2 and I will have a reason to break down and finally buy a pixhawk Nice work.

Another vote for a 2.4Ghz version. It'd be a 'killer app' for me.

Directional antenna with 10db gain onboard the airframe.? Whats not to like Id be well up for a 5.8ghz version. Heck i might even switch back from 2.4 to 5.8ghz if this works well.
