5mm. The 2221/8 1860 works great on a 4s system. Same speed as the 2814 1700, but less amp draw. It's a smaller motor, so you need to watch the heat on sustained full throttle runs.

While waiting for the motor and esc to arrive. Just admiring it. The build was easy.

    Hi all,

I'm in the process of building my mini drak, but can't find the SS 1700 kv or the equivalent cobra 2814 1700 kv anywhere. Does anybody know where they are in stock? What would be a suitable replacement? I'm looking to run mine at 4s. I have my mini tallon and caipi 2 for long range, so not looking for most efficient set up, just for some fun higher speed proximity bashing around! Saw the sunnysky 1400 Kv and the Cobra 2221/10 1500kv mentioned. Would the cobra be OK to run on 4s? I don't have 5s lipos and don't want to have to buy them if possible!

    Cheers,

    Maarten

Getting serious with the flights in the mountains, altitude 3000m !
Was very windy, requires a lot of wind to begin to shake this plane.

A Cobra 2221/8 1860 works better than the 2814 1700 on 4s. It's lighter, faster, and pulls about the same current. Just watch the temps, as it is a smaller motor.

I will be running mine with a sunnysky x2814 1250kv spinning aeronaut 9x6 folding prop. Let's see how it goes when it is done.

Thanks Scott! Ordered. Looked online and see people flying it with 7x4 and even 7x5 APCe props. This is a lot more prop then Cobra seems to recommend. Have you used this motor, and what prop did you feel worked the best?

Again thanks for your help, it is much appreciated!

Prop recommendations from Cobra or any other manufacturer are so conservative, that it makes them a bit useless for our hot needs. My guesstimate from ecalc is that it will do ok with 7x5. Here are the ecalc predictions. Note that the numbers are NOT precise in any way, but its the best we have besides actual testing.

I have/do run that exact motor on a 7x6 Sport prop. I am at 4200 feet elevation, take that into account. I think it pulls around 45a on launch, and settles down to around 38 40 after that. Like I said before, this is not a motor to do 8 minute full speed runs, but I have done full throttle runs for 30 sec or so. It is great for some speed runs, but it really shines in cruise, as it is less amp hungry, especially with a higher pitched prop.
I have talked with Lucien at Cobra. Basically, as long as you don't go over the recommended continuous amp draw for more than a couple of seconds, you are fine. Also check motor temps on landing.

Cheers for the help guys! Finished most of the structural work. Now to paint, laminate and wait for parts to arrive so I can assemble. Looking forward to this one!
