    Micro Pan/Tilt

    Hey guys,

I decided I'd like full head tracking etc but want the smallest camera I can get with reasonable picture quality. The lightest PT I could find was the fibreglass one at HobbyKing...

    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ra_Mount_.html

It's also cheap, which can't hurt! Paired it up with a couple of HK's lightest servos. Number HK282A...

    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...g_0_08sec.html

glued to the PT using Shoe-Goo and the whole thing weighs in at 28g.

My whole rationale here is that the lighter something is, the less momentum it has if it crashes, so, so long as it doesn't suffer a direct hit, it's less likely to do itself any damage. Time will tell whether that stands up but for 10 bucks, it's an experiment worth trying.

If you have any suggestions for smaller PT's then please let me know.

    Cheerz!

Very neat setup. How well is that pan servo glued to the base? I think that's your weak point, together with the plastic gears.
If I were you, I would rather use metal gear servos as those plastic gears could strip on a hard landing. I use the MG90S servos from HK together with the basic pan/tilt plywood mount from RMRC. The mount is light, strong and small enough.

Even though your setup is light, the weight of the cam will still carry a fair amount of momentum in a hard landing.

Thanks for the response Moelich. Yes. I think the top of the pan servo is probably the weak point. Wish there were metal-geared, ball raced servo's of this size and weight. The MG90S looks very good for the money. I might replace the pan servo with one of them. I'm intending to use a very light camera...

...but you're right. The mass of the camera will be what determines whether it gets damaged in a crash.

if you want "smallest" and "lightest" that one is about 5g:

missing tilt, but, that wouldnt add much more, probably 2-3g

note that i crashed it a lot, and since the mechanism is deported , nothing breaks. a really bad crash could rip the depron tho
