DX6i and EzUHF not binding

When I try to bind my UHF tx to my DX6i the UHF tx keeps beeping. I think part of the reason is I cant exactly follow the steps for the bind procedure because as soon as you plug a trainer cables into a dx6i it powers it up.(which might put the Tx in buddy recieve mode or something)

I have tried to power the controller up first then continue with the IMRC steps but this doesnt complete the bind and stop the beeping.

I have seen others on the internet use the trianer port to connect to an the dx6i with no reported issue, so I know its been done.

I have read a bit about the PPM trainer port PPM signal being weaker and some have had to solder directly to a spot on the internal components to get a stronger signal. But the EzUHF is supposed to be able to see the weaker signal. If it is a weak signal issue then It may just be worth going direct anyway...

Does anyone know how to set this up without having to open the controller up?

One thing that got me was I had the tx on 431-433 and the rx on 433-435. You might verify that in irc tools

Got that one too If you made your own cable and followed the colors you could be screwed. Turns out the colors (R/G/Black/W) on those cables is not standard. Ohm your cable out and verify correctness.

Good advice, on my EZUHF cable this was the pinout Red = PPM, White = Ground, an Green = V+. May or may not be the same on yours.
I think I'm gonna smash this VTX with extreme prejudice!! KK4HBG

Ignore the colors, just use the picture/schematic to wire up your connector. Happened to someone else here too.

can you hook up a ezuhf to a dx6i without needing an additional battery?

No, Spektrum/JR trainer systems do not provide voltage on the trainer port. Additionally, the DX6i doesn't have a large enough battery to fully power the ezUHF transmitter.
Far better is it to dare mighty things, even though checkered by failure; than to take rank with those who neither enjoy much or suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
