    Racing headlight, your needs?

Want to design a headlight meant for racing at night, plz input your needs/ideas.

    -Small/light (21mm dia. <25g)
    -Durable (of course)
-Affordable (as not over 30$ with driver)
-No feature/plug and play, fixed current for 1 LED
    -500-600 lumens with 60x30deg. optic.

I ordered this as a starting point. They are not very bright, even with two you need a very sensitive* cam.
Flew them on my storm racer and it was suicide

I ordered some XM-L2 on 16mm star with matching heatsink and lens, that should put out 4-5 times more light.

You mean you need a very sensitive cam. Sensible means appropriate/reasonable/good judgement etc.

Anyway, your requirements list looks like it hits all the key areas for a racing headlight. Especially being rugged. Racers crash often, and crash hard! LOL!

I wonder, though, how far out you really need to see. I can imagine that distance increases the faster you go, so you have more time to plan your moves.

Beautiful! That's some amazing output for only one LED!! What is the current consumption at that output?

That flight was with two LED at 2A (current draw on the flight pack is approx 1.4A) The cam is also doing great I think, it is the 1200tvl exmor from surveilzone.
I may go single LED with XHP50 however.
Here's another vid featuring that setup:

(Flight trough tents was done by IBcrazy who had alot of fun )

Ive got some 7w CREE Q5 LED modules... I cant get them to display like yours do. The diffusion isnt good enough and I end up with a 'spot light' thats too focused on one spot.
