I'm about to rebuild my Armattan and will try a 2A/5v stepdown off a 3S lipo to power it without a battery inside of it. According to gopro support, this should work. I'm using the same usb cable I rigged for my white edition which worked perfectly for it. I'll post back after I've tried it.

Sorry guys false alarm. Still no love with the GPH3B even with a 2.5A stepdown!! Wow this thing is a real power hog. And I setup the stepdown correctly I tested it with a GPHW and it worked fine.

Ok now I'm pee ohed lol.

Found these guys that make all sorts of gopro hacks. In particular they make a dummy gopro battery you can use to feed power. A little pricey for what I think it is but I may give it a shot: http://cam-do.com/GoProBatteryEliminator.html

I will try using this 3.3V 1A stepdown to best match the stock gopro battery spec: https://www.pololu.com/product/2830
