    Well - I love it....

Got the crosshair sorted and built my tracker around it.

Diversity, and also retransmitting the signal to my Fatsharks via another transmitter to make it cable free. Adjustable counterweight.

Also have a small camera mount still to go to hold a spare GoPro I have to record landing and takeoff from the tracker - no human holding required....!!

RCA to SDcard video recorder on the way too.. Will be mounted on one of the sides.

    Welcome questions or comments...

Special thanks to Alex for answering all my questions.

    Cheers

    Hi Gang

    Well I've read through 600 odd posts on making this particular antenna and I've got a few questions;
    • Should I scale the tube diameter down for 5.8GHz? I was thinking of using 4mm copper tube. I'm not sure how much internal diameter is required?
    • I noticed that people that have built 5.8GHz antennas add a second piece of wire for the element. Is this necessary?
    • I noticed a cover for this antenna on TrueRC. Is this made of vacuum formed styrene sheet?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Jase

    5.8G Crosshair

Well here she is! Thank you Alex for your time answering questions and gifting us your hard work.

Just 2 things I am worried about, the solder peaks, will this affect performance? Don't want to retouch with iron if I don't have too since this thing is so delicate.
Also this one called for 10.9 and 12.8mm element lengths, one of the long ones I cut too short to 12.2mm, will this affect the antenna much?

I ground tested last night and got about 3/4 more distance with it than the clover.

Well I finished and just ground tested my cross hair. I tested it side by side with my biquad, seems I get very similar results. Is that good?

I was walking between 2 apartment buildings, and the signal was behind one of them. Im running 2.4ghz, and I am sure there is a lot of wireless internet in all the buildings. I made it about a 100-110 yards passing the signal through a brick building diagonally

Nice... What size plate did you use?

Im starting to build a Quad 5.8 ground station and was planning on these! but the ease of Helicals is tempting as well...

70mm, but might trim it down as side and rear coverage was only about 50-100mtrs with 250mw

    cool thanks,
I was thinking of around 60mm and using copper clad PCB... wonder if the double sided would cause problems...

    IB or Hugo...
Would having Double sided PCB cause problems if both sides are grounded?
