    FPV NIGHT OPS TECH

Ok - I took the Gunfighter up tonight after work. I was fired up and doing some lower level ops, getting used to the performance of the rig and learning how late I can climb out of trouble - etc... basically just getting comfortable with the rig. I didn't run out of battery, I ran out of useable light although the sun wasn't exactly "down" yet.

I'm running a 12v KX-131 from BEV. Disappointed that I had to shutdown well before what I considered "night-time", I decided to add another project on my list of FPV rigs... and that's a dedicated rig for night-ops.

What are your excperiences/suggestions for a proper night ship?

Well camera wise i cant beat my Sony 540 OSD cam.

Ive tired a few different cams & this one is my favourite all round cam. I recently tested it after sun-down & it worked great!

As it gets dark the cam auto-switches to mono-chrome which increases the contrast & makes the image look like day, its not untill you land, remove the goggles & cant see your plane you realise how dark it is.

    Highly recommended!

I've been looking at getting this 540 line camera: http://www.readymaderc.com/store/ind...roducts_id=346 Is that the same one you are using?

Not 100% sure but $111.96 seems steep.

Interesting. Your text above shows up as white on white when in "butter" theme. Can't see it unless I highlight it.

Anyway, DPCAV.com sells the same thing I think.. http://www.dpcav.com/xcart/product.p...cat=264&page=1 $145 from them. Yours might be the same camera, just an uncased version.

This was last summer at the dustbowl....Syracuse was flying his FPV cub....cam is a KX171. He had glow wires on the plane which enabled me to spot for him. He had his car headlights on for a landing beacon.

That 540 TVL camera works very well in low light, but it has some trouble around sunset with backlight compensation. You need to adjust the gamma per lighting conditions, unfortunately.

The RCV922 and the VSN500 are better with BLC and do not need to be set.

I personally have had lots of luck with double board cameras. I just bought this one and I'll let you guys know how it does: http://www.securitycamera2000.com/pr...s-0.01Lux.html
If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

Ill bring this post back to life. The RMRC-540 with the f1.8 lens is pretty darn bright at night. This was my 1st night flight and was shot at 9pm
