Trappy: What glider do you recommend for FPV?

    Hi Trappy

I've previously flown a Goldberg Gentle Lady with a brushless system FPV. It was a fun summer FPV'ing it like crazy...until I got too cocky and lost it! Flew away....I learned alot since then. I've been FPV'ing a Multiplex Mentor and a Slow Stick and a Stryker. All fun but I really miss my glider. Do you have any recommendations?

I'm not looking for insane high performance (and its price!) as I just go fly, I don't try to set records or anything. I like the Radian but was thinking there are probably better ones out there for FPV....

    "Edit" Found this...looks nice...

Yeah but I dunno...seems kinda big and difficult to transport. And I don't really know if I need all those servos and functions and all...heh heh. Lets just say, I'm a noob when it comes to gliders. I don't really understand the whole "Crow" and so on. Oh, I know physically what happens on the plane when that is activated, I just don't know when I would need airbrakes and flaps and crow and all that. I'm not going to be trying to do spot landings and impress people...

I have this one and I can recommend it. It will thermal but not the best performance ever.

philthyy, when it comes to thermals crows are not important. the bigger the glider the better it will fly - generally speaking of course. what you want to look at is camber. It will transform your thermal experience. hit a thermal, adjust camber accordingly. it will slow the plane down and really let you take advantage of the thermal. otoh, once you're sick of thermalling, put some negative camber and the plane really starts to speed up. basically what you're doing is changing the lift of the wing, by making all flaps and ailerons either move up or down. a few mm is all it takes.

if you just want to point and fly, take an EasyGlider or any of the chinese clones. Won't be nearly as much fun and challenging, though.

Why not buy a Hotliner like a Siren or an ION? They're not terribly expensive but the performance is incredible. I find that my home made warmliners have no problem thermaling on a good day with the L1D vario.

The fun thing about the hotliner is you can still fly for long periods with the motor off, but instead of moving at 25mph, you're going 70 The other nice thing is they have far better penetration. Stiff air currents can make for a bumpy ride in FPV and can also cause the plane to drift away making it difficult to come back if the plane doesn't have good penetration. A hotliner will punch through just about anything.

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.
