24v regulator and LC filter for clean 12.1v power to all GS components. super simple and clean and can run on just about any DC power source now.

Added the fatshark repeater yesterday and really like it. Should be the last thing as I have run out of room on this tripod.

Man, I never thought to do anything like the retransmit until I saw this, that's definitely on my to-do list! Thanks for the idea!

Repeaters are where it's at. I flew with my goggles (or headplay's) hanging from my ground station for years. Even while I had a repeater I still did (my goggles then we're attitude v2's without a fan - foggy situation too often) because I connected my headplay's to the eagle eyes via wire. Now that I have a set of hd3's and use them for most everything now, the repeater is fantastic. Not only can everyone else watch your flight if you're flying with people - the freedom of movement and ability to get away from a 1.3 receiving station with a 433 source screaming in my hands is great. Throw plane, get back 20 or 30 feet from my ground station and it's smooth, clear sailing.

Quick question, and would love your input - but I know how finnicky sometimes 1.3 Ghz video is with 433/900 Mhz UHF control, but how does the 5.8 Ghz transmitter on the ground station do against the 1.3 Ghz video. Is there any sort of problem with signal degradation?

There is no discernible impact / interference between 1.3 and 5.8. The reason 433 interacts so heavily is that 1.3 is only 3 harmonics away from 433. 433x3=1299, so if you're flying 1280, you're going to get some heavy interaction. 5.8 is invisible though - you can stick your repeater right on the 1.3 antenna and be fine.

Repeaters are fine for small groups of friends flying, but become a liability at larger events. In fact many large events do not allow repeaters.

I am attempting to construct my first ground station. I want to use two batteries, both with switches and a red LED indicator light. I have connected a European style connection block to each of the servo leads to each battery. Then, from the two positive leads from the terminal block I connected two separate switches, then downstream on the positive wires go two simple red LED's to indicate the switch is on. Then downstream from battery switch #1 is a 5v UBEC to a 5v DVR recorder. Then down stream from that (Still Switch #1 is a JST connector to my Video Receiver which can take up to more than 12 volts. From Switch #2 comes power to a 7 inch video monitor. Here is my problem....when I turn on either switch, the wires get very hot very quickly necesssitating rapid unplugging! What am I doing wrong? I assume my circuits are set up properly and I am sure the positive and negative circuits are not shorting....Any suggestions greatly appreciated before I fry my electronics!
