I just saw that.. I am glad I sold my quad and able to get out until the smokes settles. I want to FPV but not with all the negative press going on now.

So can I buy a phantom and pretend to be ignorant?

    I guess you can...

But I was making reference to a type of pilot, not the actual model.

Yeah, really .... wait, weren't you, hucker and I planning the same flight a year ago?? Was it moronic then?? Or just more of the true irony and hypocrisy (from myself included) that seems to run rampant in FPV?

Anyhow, R/C sailing looks like it will be fun (again, my second time ) ....

    You nailed it! "Planning".

That's not something the previous people did. Sentry and I discussed this at *great* lengths, locations, etc. We mapped out antenna's, we took as many safety precautions as we could in the event we were to fly it.
That's the difference between throwing a toy in the air while on vacation and performing aerial photography.

Key word is "Mitigate", mitigate the risks because they can never all but be eliminated.
In the end I chose not to do the flight, it was done professionally by a guy with a Hex, and by a Poulsbo based company that flies real airplanes

Point taken. The guy with a quad was Chad Copeland. I met him at Meadowbrook once. http://www.copelandred.com/ He has Hollywood connections and I am sure was permitted when he did it.

You seem to know more about this guys preparations than I would have expected

I meant hex. The guy who took fourth of july pics near the space needle, that Scott is referring to, is/was probably Chad.

Yeah seems I emailed him or something but it was clear he planned it, flew a specific path, it was a very impressive flight and video for sure!!
How much I'm not sure but I spent a couple of hours mapping out the best flight path to keep the antenna's 90 degrees off my side, with a distance that did not require aiming straight up into the null etc.

Was just too risky for me and in light of everything else going on I'm reconsidering the Mt Rainier flight, besides cost, time, and a crew the plane will be LOUD in that valley and they would probably confiscate the plane.

But that said, TIME PERMITTING as I HAVE NONE these days, Hamma Hamma valley will be filmed next, I think WildWill did some of it already but will make some good video.
