So I am sort of stuck right now. I would like to order a new vario, but hmfpa that made the prototype vario is unresponsive... If you guys know of another vario please let me know. L1D is overpriced, and the thermal scout by winged shadow systems is no longer made.

From post 7 by maximus, it looks like I can use the altitude for thermal hunting (done it on a popwing). The problem is programming in flaperons (actually crow for ailerons) doesn't seem possible with the latest baseflight FW.

Also I have run into issues with practically every fpv component I have put in the cularis(mic DOA, headtracker imu DOA, video gear frequency issues, and osd not taking standalone FW). It's pretty frustrating when stuff is DOA...

All I wanna really do is fly

Do your own vario. Search for user pisces in this thread. I really like the vario. It s arsuino based. Works on the spot and is about 25$.

    Like that?

I have seen this thread, but I cannot find much info. He doesn't list what that other part is on the vario. not just a pressure sensor, not sure why.

Maybe its a pressure sensor broken out?

In his schematic you will see a ms5611 listed... this is the baro, similar to what you have in your link...

Is there a difference between the 3 here?

Hmfpa said the bmp pressure sensor did not work very well.

Sparkfun is a short bike ride away from my home, so I will try to order from them. I can't figure out if I need I2C communication or not...

As cool as this project sounds, $30 sounds good to me for a working shipped vario...

That's the vario I built and use. It works really well and is simple to make.

Nah this thread... here. Look for pisces. I m on mobile right now cant search. the rcgroups thread is super geeky

Anyways. Pisces has uploaded the code, the wiring and the part list in this thread here.

you don't need any amplifiers i2c, nada. Just hook the audio up to your vtx and done.

    Simple for you

I was reading up on flaps with the cularis, and it looks like you had the flaperons on a separate channel.

Is this about how you have it setup, in no particular order?

    inputs:
    Afromini
    1-roll
    2-pitch
    3-throttle
    4-yaw
    5-flaperon switch
    6-flight mode
    afromini outputs:
    1-elev
    2-thr
    3-Leftail
    4rightail
    5-rudder
    ----------------
    Directly out of rx:
    7-flap
    8-flap2
    9-pan
    10-tilt
    11-vario on/off
    12-RSSI or something else

Lots of subtle differences in power consumption and how samples are taken at low level but the main resolution differences are as follows:

    T5400 - .0027kpa
    MPL115A1 - .15kpa
    BMP180 - .003kpa

    MS5611 - .0012kpa

these values are more or less their 'best' interpolation resolution at oversampling averaging rates, so as you can see the MPL115A1 comes in at worst resolution.
