One thing to note is that the cases are more of an image thing than functional. Sure they protect the antenna, but the cable is what ends up failing well before the antenna head. I've been running the same antenna on a ground vehicle for playing with my dog. between her biting the antenna, jumping on it, and me rolling the truck over, I've gone through 6 right-angle adapters, worn almost completely through the aluminum 1.3GHz VTX case, and worn the coating off the wires and even worn off the heatshrink on the cable from dragging it on the concrete. The antenna head is still well intact and doing fine albeit ugly. I need to post some photos of the carnage. I think the antenna is going to outlast the poor VTX...

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

Marc was so kind and made me a 5.8GHz PepperBox antenna . It looks fantastic, really nicely done.

Finally I got around to test it. My setup is a 25mW Iftrontech NANO Stinger transmitter with a Bluebeam Ultra CL on the wing of an FX-61. On the receiving side is an ImmersionRC Duo5800 receiver.

I tried to find the horizontal boundaries by flying away as far as I felt comfortable (video with lot's of noise but not yet the absolute limit). I was able to fly off 500-600m in a sector approx. 40 degrees wide.

Is this more or less expected? Compared to the lower frequency PepperBoxes (I have one for 1.3GHz) the angle felt a little narrow. I'm happy to do some more tests.

    Cheers

On 25mW at 5.8GHz 600 meters is fairly far. On omnis and the same system you use I get ~250 meters which would suggest your findings are close, but a little bit limiting. I wonder if you are traveling out of the vertical beam?

    Hi Alex

I have to pay closer attention to the vertical alignment next time, I was under the impression it was ok but could be mistaken. I did a second flight with my Spironet 13dBi CP patch and got 800-900m, although in a narrower sector of course.

    Cheers
