Alex's Single Prop FPV

Alex running over your details you sent me about your single prop / twin planes.

Questions:

#1. When you say 32" on the fuselage is that the foam body or prop tip to elevator end? Making the actual body smaller then 32" (If that make sense.)

#2. Any reason for me to not to upscale the tractor style to a 48" wing and 40" fuselage? (40" based off the notes/ratio for the 48" wing)

For my first FPV plane I want to keep it simple and not worry about a pusher setup.
Plus a 48" wings fit into the trunk of my car very nicely.

I believe you are referring to my Fenix 80 airplane? If so, there is a scaled up version of the same size: Fenix 120 and Fenix 150.

Generally most planes scale well. Larger simply means they respond more sluggishly in most cases.

As for prop position, it really doesn't change the level of complexity. It just affects how the plane feels. I really like tractor props because they feel like I'm inside an airplane.

The real reason: because it looks cool to me.

The honorable reason: it aids in minimizing the potential for a flat spin.

^That reason is technically true, but it really is irrelevant because it barely helps at all.

I like the size and the fact you can spread the systems out to avoid interference.

iBcrazy Raven EPP?

That's my Raven before I chopped 4" off of the tail as it was entirely too reactive. It has the same wing as the Specter but less than half the drag. It glides much better and is faster than a Specter also. The other nice thing is that is doesn't tip stall.

The problem is that the configuration has a much higher stall speed than the Specter as it is a little heavier. It also is not as good at shooting gaps as it is just too fast and when it stalls, although it won't tip, you can't steer either. It's a fun plane. it just hasn't seen much air-time lately as I have been having a blast with my 32" Wraith micro.

If you want a Raven I can cut one out for you. The fuselage and everything will be rough cut, but I can CNC cut the wings (Mine were hand-cut as this was before my CNC foam cutter).

The one thing I would like to do to the plane is make the rudder steerable. This would aid in the steering as it tends to pitch the nose in a turn.

Thank very much for the offer Alex but I'm willing to bet the shipping to Canada would be very costly due to the package size. (I'll drop you an email later today so we can check on that)

For now FPV bird #1 will be a simple tractor setup.
Specially with the winter conditions I deal with and gives me time to learn/get the feel of FPV flying.

My air field does not have many gaps to shoot so I'll be doing more terrain skimming/pop ups.

Also suspect I'll need some snow shoes handy
