I've always assumed it was the center of the dirty section.
Gone full circle, MK1, then modified with longer arms and different motors, then bought the MK2L and stretched it, etc.,etc, and now I'm rebuilding the MK1 to its original specs.
Still have MK2L but eased off the stretching.

    pic of rebuild in process.

CG is going to vary depending on the set up.. battery weight and positioning plays a big part. As well as other equipment. The CG of the frame itself isn't nearly as important as the CG of the craft ready to fly. Set it up and then see where it balances, move things around to try to keep the balance point as close to the center of the frame as possible for the max efficiency. Multi rotors are pretty forgiving with CG but the closer to center you can get the CG the more efficient the craft will be.

The CofG is still meant to be center-of-thrust, so basically draw an imaginary line from front right motor to back left, and then another from front left to back right. Their intersection point is the by-design CoG. Most flight controllers allow you to be off center by several CM before caring, but, as long as your aren't under-powering your copter you should be fine with a CoG +/- 3-4 inches from CoT.
