Which GPS did you use? I have the acro naze32 as well and I'm looking to add speed and distance info to my mwosd.

You can arm and fly without a GPS lock just fine. Sometimes I get tired of waiting for a lock and just start flying without. I pretty much always fly in rate mode.

So far I have just been using the 6m house GPS from ready to fly quads. It is cheap and works OK but there are better ones out there that are more expensive.

With baseflight and gps, is throttle controlled by fc or do you have to manually set it with failsafe settings?

The throttle is not controlled in gps position hold/rth mode. You need to activate the baro as well to maintain the current altitude.

For position hold I use: horizon, mag, baro, and gps hold at the same time.

Been doing as you said and the quad does hold its altitude, just not its position very well. Drifts off randomly. Also, the RTH mode isn't very good, seems to just go in general direction and certainly not very accurately. Anything I can do to get it to work better or is this just the current state of things with Baseflight/naze32?

Have you enabled a non-zero deadband? This is often the main reason position hold doesn't work (and to some extend RTH). I have had no issues with RTH or position hold. I cranked up the RTH speed as well:

    set deadband=8
    set yawdeadband=8
    set nav_controls_heading=1
    set nav_speed_min=300
    set nav_speed_max=600

Mine is identical to yours. I couldn't improve it even with adjustments. It seems Baseflight and Rev5 Naze just do not have the required code yet.
Others have had success with Harikiri and I haven't explored that avenue yet.
Hopefully the new Naze Rev6 will provide what we are looking for. I am looking forward to its' release.

On the quad with the GPS (Cinetank), it is at 3500.

Thanks HFMan. I know that some suggest it should be reduced to 2900 - 3000 but it made no difference to mine so I put it back.
