    cheesy ebay DVRs

Anyone have experience with any of these cheap ebay DVRs? (ie like this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Mini-SD-Card-...item2ec7bff2ae)

I want to get some sort of cheap simple ground station recording solution purely for the purpose of reviewing video signal and also to help find the plane in the event of a crash. Don't care particularly about quality of recording.

If anyone has tried these, what I am wondering is, at these price points, do these units actual work? Do they cut out as soon as there is some noise?

Anyhow, if someone here has tried these and they do not work, please save me the $20. If not, i'll be the guinea pig.

I bought exactly that one, and you can have it for the price of shipping.
It really stinks. At first I had a couple of successes, but it ended up just quitting recording more often than not. When it does record, the quality is really bad.

I bought a Readymade RC DVR1000 about two weeks later, and that has held up perfectly.

I'll take it for shipping? Would like to tear into it to see how it works and see it the firmware is hackable.

rbaird, there are a few cheap DVRs that look similar but there's a big difference in their performance. The one you linked I don't think I've actually seen before, though.

    I use this one:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/MINI-DVR-Cam...300#vi-content

It will record as long as there's space on the card through static or even total signal loss. The quality is ok, not the greatest, but it doesn't drop frames or do anything else bad, perfect for back-up.
