QAV540G with Integrated Brushless Camera Gimbal

Is it possible to let us see a picture of the prototype?

We're tweaking the frame and gimbal still, but maybe we can post a few pics next week.

Looks cool - I am actually designing a similar thing at the moment... Shame you've beaten me to it lol.

Still TBD, but the frame will be a good bit heavier compared to the QAV500. This frame is meant to be a slow, steady flying camera platform. The QAV500 is a rocket compared to the goals for the QAV540G.

Will the Naza built in gimbal control be good enough to drive this onboard gimbal?

The Naza gimball control is only for gimballs using servos. Brushless gimballs require a dedicated brushless controller.

    I haz feedback

I'm really excited about the gimbal frame and I have some feedback.

    1)

Can weight be saved by using a really simple gimbal design, such as the one below, and by making the QAV a tad bid shorter to account for the extra length of the gimball (and save a few grams)?

with an appropriate back mount for the QAV body (ignore the carbon fiber cylinders, etc. Only the base, rear support and the motors + some mount to fit on the QAV body.

    2)

It would be nice if an FPV camera (like the 25x25mm mini cams that most people use) would fit next to the gopro on the gimbal (if not, where would we put one?)

    3)

Take a look at this gimbal:

Do you think it will help if the base of the gimbal had the standard gopro case mount (like on the picture) so we can just put the gopro in its case, snap it on the gimbal and fly without sweating bullets : )

Very eager to see some prototype images and good luck with finishing the new design.

Itīs a pain in the a** to fly a quad with the FPV cam on the gimbal. Not a good idea

Oh, because if the quad turns (roll, pitch) you don't see any motion until a few seconds later? Sure. Let's see where Tim placed it if he releases any of the prototype images.
