    Before you consider FPV, learn to solder.

    I think the most basic skill you need to master to be successful in FPV is learning to solder. EVERYTHING is going to rely on the weakest solder joint in your bird.

    I highly suggest that you watch these videos and get the tools listed below, and then practice practice practice;

    another great link to how to take care of your soldering iron tips.

    Definitely learn how to solder and don't forget your heatshrink tubing! Very valuable skills! A good soldering iron is worth its weight in gold.

    This is the soldering iron I use: http://www.amazon.com/Weller-WES51-A...keywords=WES51

    And my favorite solder: http://www.amazon.com/Kester-Rosin-C...=kester+solder

    If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

    Learning how to solder properly, and buying a decent setup was the best thing I ever did for all my RC hobbies, not just FPV alone.

    My favorite soldering purchase is a Hakko Tip Cleaner
    http://www.amazon.com/Hakko-Cleaner-...ef=pd_sim_hi_2

    I ditched the dome, and just have it wire-tied to my station base. I haven't used a wet sponge in a couple of years, and don't miss it.

    Good info is more valuable than money.
