Very interesting. What was the limitation for going further, battery power? I just wonder, because you still did it with the gopro.

yes, battery power. video was good for another 20-30km, UHF allowed us to go about 3x the distance. this is with a completely stock system btw, we've got another 2-3dbi out of the one we fly with

Why not remove the gopro, and go further? Point proven, so no need I guess?

In this case if there was no Go-Pro then the video wouldn't exist since the recording efforts were botched. I would have loved to see how flyable it was that far out. That would have been good stuff. I'm very "utilitarian" w/ FPV -- I like the "geek factor" w/ OSD info in my face and the occasional pop and flicker.

Unfortunately FPV with OSD can get you into trouble in a country where flying out of LOS is not allowed

video was rock solid at landing, the occasional bump here and there but that's normal when you fly in a valley.

Okay here's a dumb question. In the credits you listed the chase team having a ImmersionRC Itelemetry which is obviously used for tracking and locating the downed aircraft. Also they had a second R/C TX. What would this be used for?

The second RC TX was there for "safety" purposes. It was not used. Gotta keep the safety guys happy. In reality, it would be very tough to use a second transmitter in conjuction with the first with a digital system like the EzUHF.
