Gday guys,
I'm just getting into tricopters and quads and I'm in the middle of my first build. I'm on a tight budget and am hoping to get away with using the kk board from hk. Before I do so, I just wanted to get an opinion and any tips from the pros!

Cheers guys hope you can help

Well I'm no pro,but my first tip is dont get it from Hobbyking. If something is wrong with it your stuck with it or at least waiting for replacement for quite some time.Check this out. http://www.ebay.com/itm/110802233097?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Its already programmed for a Tricopter.Comes with the power distribution board too.The E-bay sellers have more incentive to make their customers happy,HK could care less. Also this seller has some really good frames for good prices. http://www.ebay.com/itm/130699936755?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Setup
Here is the new QuadControl V4.7 (plus and X mode) firmware.

Changes:
Higher ESC refresh: 300Hz
Added I-term on yaw axis
Added I-term anti wind-up, all axis

Changed potmeter usage:
Roll pot now controls P-term gain on roll/pitch axis.
Pitch pot now controls I-term gain on roll/pitch axis.
Yaw pot controls P-term on yaw axis as before. Yaw axis I-term is fixed at 0.2

X-mode setup:
Motor 1: front left, CW
Motor 2: back left, CCW
Motor 3: Front right, CCW
Motor 4: Back right, CW

Suggested initial setup:
P pot at 50%
I pot at 0% (it can be left at 0% since it does not have a secondary function.
Yaw P pot at 50%

Trim it level.

Adjust P (roll/pitch) to your liking.

Add I until it flies straight forward without pitching up.

Setup Details

;---- Gyro direction reversing ----
;---- 1: Set roll gain pot to zero.
;---- 2: Turn on flight controller.
;---- 3: LED flashes 3 times.
;---- 4: Move the stick for the gyro you want to reverse.
;---- 5: LED will blink continually.
;---- 6: Turn off flight controller.
;---- 7: If there is more gyros to be reversed, goto step 2, else set roll gain pot back.
If you move the throttle in the step 4 above, you will reverse the pot direction.

;---- ESC Throttle range calibration. This outputs collective input to all motor outputs ---
;---- This mode is entered by turning yaw gain pot to zero and turning on the flight controller. ---

Gyro/Throttle calibration
There is no stick centering in my firmware. Use your trims. There is no difference between using stick centering or using trim.

This only has:
Roll = 0: Gyro and potmeter reversing.
Yaw = 0: throttle calibration.

Lower the "ScaleStick" value to 4 to get more stick action.

Gyro/pot reverse
As stated before, it is possible to change the direction of the potmeters. Just enter gyro reversing and move the throttle up.
