I'm interested to see what you come up with as I wear glasses too and I've got the MyVu goggles (using them with the optional diopter lenses is kind of a pain).

Heel veel succes Rob!

I took mine apart and installed them into some ski goggles. I don't wear my glasses under them, but I could.

I've never looked very closely at mine, but I'm sure you're right and they're glued on there...
It's been a while since I looked closely at mine, so I don't remember if there's anything actually inside of that piece - if there's not then it wouldn't be a problem to take it off.

Do people who put the MyVu goggles into a ski mask leave those corner pieces on?

volto
8th June 2012, 09:53 PM
Yeah if I remember right mine just popped apart with a little force, the part that's glued is just really thin plastic and mine broke when I removed it, but I dont care since I will never re-assemble them. I actually removed that to remove the ear pieces, I didn't think about drilling a hole like you did.

Hi

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-BBVGWELP.jpg

I remove them
Real easy
I remove the arms before
But before you remove the arms
You can lift the plastics whit small screw driver
Then you don t have to dril a hole

Here's how mine are set up in the mask. I put those pieces of plastic back on to make the connectors stronger, and put some strapping tape on. I'll see if I can find more pics of the inside and how I have the remote installed in them.

Looks nice. How is your progress Rob? And do you have a pic of the outside of the video mask?

Thanks, Elmar. :)

Rob and anyone else, careful with those plastic covers off the sides, the screen is vulnerable to dust getting in there with them off. I got a speck of dust on my left screen and can't get it out.

Heat shrink, that's a good idea. I don't remember seeing any tape in there. Looking good Rob. Recently my goggles went white while flying, even though I did the white-out resistor mod, luckily I was able to see the plane in the distance and bring it back visually. So that prompted me to get a set of Fatshark Dominators and stop skimping on goggles, one of the most important parts of flying FPV. I will still try to fix my MyVus and use them as spares and/or passenger goggles.

Myvu is real bad for fpv???

Yeah, more like a gremlin :)

MyVus are good for FPV while they work, the problem is reliability. I think some people are having good luck with them, and mine were doing fine for several months. I think maybe I chose a low quality resistor and/or didn't solder it very good. I'm tired of dealing with it, and would like more reliability especially for long range attempts (well 2 to 4 miles), when there's no chance of spotting the plane and recovering if video is lost.

Have you done the white haze mode on yours?

nkkromhof
25th June 2012, 08:48 AM
The screen going completely white would indicate that the resistor you used either failed entirely or a solder joint came loose... The mod to show static is really easy on these goggles but the white haze mod requires some SMD soldering skills.
I contacted Vanntastic on RCG and he did them both at the same time for me - they've been rock-solid since then. Had an issue with an AV cable but the goggles themselves are great. I recently started using a PZ0420 camera and I love the image quality through the MyVu's.
Thinking about getting a spare PZ0420 just so I'll never have to wait for a replacement if/when I crash this one :)

volto
25th June 2012, 11:34 AM
Yeah I bet I have a cold solder joint on my resistor mod. The screen just suddenly went cloudy white and a ghost of the OSD letters was visible on the edges. Do you know what value resistor he used on yours?

nkkromhof
25th June 2012, 11:53 AM
I looked through my PMs on RCG but don't have that info anymore, although I'm sure he mentioned it... Shoot him a PM on RCG, I'm sure he'll be able to tell you, he modded two pairs of his own before he did mine so he'll be able to tell you what has given him the best results.

Rob said in a PM the low voltage alarm is on with that 3.3v regulator, so it will blink the display dark for 1 second every 5 seconds. IMO a 3.6 to 4v regulator would probably be better if one is available. I think there are some adjustable ones available that could do that.

Yeah you gotta use tiny wire on those or else flexing the wire around will break the solder pad. Bummer. I think the alternative place to solder is on this voltage regulator if I remember correctly. Test the continuity to be sure.

No I'm sorry, I think it's the one that the B arrow is pointing to, the left side of the arrow.

Sorry if you already knew that, now it's clear where that arrow is going, haha.

Finaly found a pair of these :D should be getting them soon.

Just to clarify on the stock power supply part. As is it runs directly from a 1s lipo with no regulation?

No but it should power itself from the USB port, I have tested this with no battery connected at all.

What I'm going to end up doing rather than buying a switching regulator, even though they're cheap and well worth it, is do up a linear regulator and just power the goggles through that. My future ground station (already in redesign 2) is going to have outputs for a few different voltages to facilitate it.

My Crystals are coming! I hope shipping from Turkey doesn't take too long. :P

Got mine in today! I built a 3.8v linear regulator for it, really simple. They worked well, pics tomorrow.

Sorry about no pictures, I promise I'll get them up as soon as I can.

It seems like there is more than one model of pendant controller, mine doesn't have the same pads and things that the one I've seen pictures of. Because of this, the white haze mod on mine will be in what was once the plug from pendant to goggles. The supply for the matrices are the two solder points inside that plug, one on the top and one on the bottom, it's a light green wire, and mine are reading ~9.3v, which would explain why both my screens are hazing, I'll try dropping them to ~8v.

I was also planning on getting a goggle lense laser cut, but seeing as it would only be used once, I decided to just hack up the original. Removed the right earbud, because I don't want it, but the left one will eventualy be attached. I'm doing my goggles abit differently, The pendant and wires will stay inside of the ski goggles, but all of the control buttons (except power on/off) and the video/audio/power sources will be outsourced to my ground station.
