View Full Version : The Future of FPV Racing - SkyGates for Vector!

17th December 2015, 02:37 PM

We’re pleased to announce SkyGates Virtual Racing for the Vector Flight Controller. With SkyGates, you see the virtual gates through your goggles, on the Vector OSD.

This project started with a desire to be able to learn to race wihout the complexities of setting up physical gates, flying close to the ground, etc. Also, we wanted a way to time race laps without additional equipment.

With SkyGates, you can set up race courses however you want them, share them, manipulate them, etc. Race stats like lap and split times are displayed, which means that the system can be used an informal lap timer for “real” gate races as well. Since the gates are up in the air, fixed wingers (requires compass to be enabled!) as well as multirotors can play.

While we expect the primary use for the feature will be racing related, there are many other potential uses (the sky is the limit). One person plans to use the gates for night time landing strip markers.

While this is at a "proof of concept" stage now, we have many plans for SkyGates going forward:
GUI is under development that lets you create and edit courses on a Google Map, as well as sharing courses with others.
Imagine a future of real-time virtual FPV races, happening simultaneously all over the world!
Other stuff you want to see – let us know!

Thats the Boss !!! However, if your wrong setting up gates Alt wise and/ or tree wise.. could be a problem. The work that had to go into this must have been incredible.

Wow, I was just thinking earlier tonight about how cool it would be to have something like this!

I like the runway landing concept too, this would be 1000x better than the idea I had for this dilemma by having bright white and red lights on a lipo for a PAPI system.

Unfortunately however, I went the ImmersionRC EzOSD path with some Spektrum Telemetry (really only use it for the pitot tube). But ever since I saw the Vector's HUD layout with a variometer, altimeter, & airspeed I have thought about picking one of these up.

Now that I'm seeing SkyGates, I have added a Vector Flightcontroller + OSD to my shopping list for tomorrow's trip to my LHS!
