My 400Q tasted the dirt today, im pretty sure DL fail safed and put me in a hard to recover upside down dive. Last minute I was able to get right side up but not even a second after I lost video and heard a loud thump.

So whats the damage? LOL 3 landing gear arms! none of my electronics or motors were damaged thanks to this rock solid frame.

edit: Chris, I am having issues adding some landing gear to the cart. :)

I really need to figure the website out, it will not add items on the stock android browser(what i'm using) but it works in Opera, internet explorer and firefox. and i think safari but i haven't checked. i'll change it in a few minutes

also, glad nothing major broke! I had a few crashes recently because of my dragon link :(

damn! yeah glad nothing major. these stories about DL going into fail safe makes me worried a bit now since I just got along with DL. do you guys use the long antenna most of the time? I've always been using the long one and on low power. so far, no issues.

I used the standard dragonlink dipole on my 400q, My tricopter has been using the sanders style antenna for a while and im happy with the results so ill probably just use the sanders antennas for all my multirotors from now on.

After having a fail-safe on my plane a day after the q400 crash I started troubleshooting the DL TX and found some damage to the main PPM wire. i replaced the wire and installed some soft conduit. The black plastic conduit I had installed previously caused the damage so stay away from that crap.

Chatch - what happened there? FS or component failure?

Sounds (and looks) like a thrown prop. Like half the rear left one.

But with one missing, including the retaining hardware, I'd guess the right rear came loose in flight?

I would expect a little different sound for that though ie rpm increase, and no vibration if the entire prop left, but I see vibration. That vibration may be resultant yaw for one missing clockwise prop.

you can see he's using nylon-only props in the picture. Those props are weak and will break if you have a quad more than 800g. this quad weighs 1500g in the air.

Would you recommend the CF gemfan props? I have a bunch of them but thought the nylon CF reinforced props would be enough. The CF props are a little more expensive but I have found balancing to be a little bit less painful with them versus the nylon CF reinforced.

i use the CF ones because i hate balancing. the carbon/nylon are great but really bad at balancing. I can't tell if i'm seeing a performance boost simply because the CF props are balanced(and not wasting energy), or if it's really a CF vs carbon/nylon factor contributing to more lift and extra flight time.

it was roughly 7ft deep. we all knew exactly where it crashed and the bubbles caused by one of the esc made it easier to get it.
