I found a guy here in Charlotte that builds them semi-professionally for people with the need and the money I guess. He is a good friend of my neighbors who happens to hang out in a hobby shop a lot.

He said he would be thrilled to train me in the jedi ways of FPV. I have a full HT-FPV setup coming in next week but it lacks FPV equipment as I figured I should learn to fly it without the goggles first. I am usually ok at the learning curve on this stuff so shouldn't be long before I am inside the quad.

Maybe we can meet in the middle somewhere. Would be nice to find people who are in the area to fly with, and more importantly, learn how to keep the props in one piece from.

Keep in touch and we will see if flying with a group works out.

I *just* moved to the area last month and have some multi flying experience. I'm just starting to get into the FPV scene and could use a bit of local assistance if there is any around. I know that the winter weather slightly prohibits flying, but if there's anything going on in the area, I'm down!

Sorry guys, I'm getting out of the hobby. I have too many hobbies, so I have to strip a few. But you guys have fun!

Ah. Sad to hear.

I hate to be a vulture on my 3rd post here, but are you parting with any equipment? I'm in the market for some FPV equiment.

If not, I'm always down for some first-hand reviews/knowledge on the subject. I've done my research and know the terms/science of FPV, but just haven't pulled the trigger on any vtx/rx, goggles, camera, etc yet.

There is a guy here that builds and sells them that is going to show me how to fly and then set me up with FPV, which is what he does almost all the time when he is out now. PM me and we can hook up while he is teaching me.

Just got into the hobby with a DJI F450, now building a Discovery. I'm in Charlotte looking for places to fly and others interested in flying.

I haven't even lifted off the ground yet as I just got it and am waiting for someone to be around that at least knows what is happening in case things go wrong. I am addicted to the idea of it already though.. spending all my time reading and even want to build one from scratch just to learn about the mechanics of it all. The Discovery looks like it will be the one I go with as well... let me know how it goes.

Just getting into it and live in Indian Land, SC. I have Walkera QR X350 Pro and a coupe of smaller learners but getting an 250 size FPV real soon.
My friend and I just built a F450 and he just got a 250 racer.
Looking for places to play and people to race and learn with as soon as the weather is better. LOL
Happy Flying!!!

Any of you guys still out there? It seems the hobby is sucking back in. Hey Simon, sounds like a good time. I'm thinking of getting a racer myself. Definitely the "it" thing right now, might as well try it. I have just a qav400 right now. Indian Land isn't too far from me and you would probably have some nice land out there. Almost nothing in the city, that I'm comfortable flying in at least. Cheers!

Cheers.... LOL..... Not English are you?

As soon as the weather gets better, we'll be out somewhere. there are soccer fields and more where I live, but I'd love to find a big are somewhere a big quieter to fly. Im still in the learning phase so trying to be careful. lol. I started mainly for Video, but its expanding rapidly into something that is going to cost me way too much money.
When we get flying and have good spots, I'll post back.

Na, probably picked it up from some English though. Yea I'm not a regular flyer, so I still consider myself as a noob. Lol same here with the video. Had a photog business not that long ago and thought about doing some video with all the equipment. Now that's all done and I still find myself trying to fly, even with my protesting wife. Oh well.

Hello. I am new to this blog. I am a member of York County Flyers but I am looking to find areas outside the club where I could do FPV in a safe manner and without upsetting anyone. I have flown out there on a few spots with my hexacopter but now that I am getting into FPV (multirotor and fixed wing) I am looking for other landscapes to enjoy the bird-eye view. Any suggestions?

Hey wilo! Well, I know I can't promise not to upset anyone around here. It seems like no matter where you fly, someone always has something to say about it. Mainly because anywhere that's wide open in charlotte is protected in some way or another. I've had a few quads now and they are getting smaller in size because of the limited space there is to go full throttle. I'm waiting for my 250 to get here, then it would be cool to find some others to race. But as far as landscapes you probably have better real estate down there than charlotte.

Lot's of disc golf courses here in Charlotte. It would be cool to race down around the basket and back for each hole. FPV golf where the par is time based.

Very true, Ben! Haven't really given those a thought. That and real golf courses, though it would probably be really early or late in the day. The golfers would get pissed, definitely. ;)
What flyers you have Ben?

I only have a toy from Syma now but I plan on building something real soon. I am looking at the Cinetanks. I can't decide on the size I want to build.

There are two groups in Charlotte that I am following and the Matthews FPV group is getting well established.
The Matthews Township has already donated one wooded area for the FPV club to race 250's which is awesome.
I went to another meeting last night and they are looking at also providing us a 30 acre open location for open flying.
Prospects of great areas for flying are increasing all the time.
Here is the MeetUp links for both clubs:

A great resource locally is also Charles at Helicopter Hobbies in Matthews. ( http://www.helicopterhobbies.com/ )
He's incredibly helpful and I've started buying a lot of equipment through him.

I've just ordered a new rig based on the Tarot 680Pro with DJI E600 kit and Pixhawk FC.
Should be all be delivered in the next week.
Can't wait to get it together and fly this baby :)

Hope to see some you get involved.

It is hard to believe that a township would donate land for this purpose in the climate of fear for flying toys. Hearing this gives me hope that things will eventually change. I get a sense that FPV racing will do a great deal to promote the FPV hobby in general. I'll definitely look into the Mathews group. Thanks Simon.

I'm constantly searching through forums for RC groups and clubs and locations to fly and decide to put together a local resource website for the Charlotte and surrounding areas. Feel free to contribute or send me a message if you know any locations, official or unofficial where people can fly their drones.

You see the site at: http://charlottefpv.com/

I'm hoping to get local clubs and groups involved in the area so we can have a single source we can all use dedicated to this area.

Well I got a email from the organizer Dee (W.N.C. Drone and Rotor Cross Racing (FPV)) and apparently he is calling the meet off due to lack of interest. I can believe that in Asheville. A city of $%^&*!g bleep, bleeps. Dammit.

I had not met any of the guys so I dont know whats up.

We went to test out another new field Matthews Town has given us full access to. It's real nice. One large probably 30 acre field and a smaller one to the side of it.
Lots of plans and layout ideas for a couple of 250 tracks, including a barn fly through :)
Here's some video from our test day that shows the large field in the background.

Hope you guys can rally up some more support and come join us one of these days.
