Purpose built performance FPV plane - The Specter

This is my newest plane - The Specter. Designed around the Wraith/Minion platform, this one carries two batteries for extended flight time. The forward swept wing makes for very predictable stalls and incredible handling.

This was designed for moderate range missions and scoping out new flying fields. I think it will be extremely maneuverable, which is how I like them

    The specs on the plane:

AUW: 2 lbs 8 oz full loaded with gear.
Construction: 10Mil laminated EPP foam joined with velcro strapping for impact absorption.
Motor: Hand wound GoBrushless GBX triple 5 turn WYE. ~83% efficient motor
    Prop: APC 7X5E
    Batteries: 2X 2250 3S Lipos
Camera: $61 D-WDR OSD camera from security camera 2000 (best camera I have ever flown)
Functions: Full 5 channel control plus tilt cam. Rigging the snap roll switch to allow looking upward, gear channel allows downward tilt.
    OSD: Remzibi OSD
    Control: Dragonlink
    Estimated speed: 55-60mph
    Estimated flight time: 25 minutes

J'son, the parts are almost done for yours.

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

Nice! How much battery capacity will it have? Where are you going to mount the remzibi and vtx? Need more pics

my brain hurts trying to figure out how that thing balances. visually, it looks like the CG would need to fall forward of the wing. I need to read up on forward swept wings.

Balance point should be 1/2" behind the center of the leading edge. It is a 48" wingspan with 3 square feet of wing. It should fly nicely... I hope.

The OSD and GPS are already mounted directly behind the camera. The Power filter sits in a small compartment underneatht the OSD. I am uncertain about where to put the VTX. I will probably mount it on top of the wing and place the antenna under the wing. Control will use my turnstile antenna on the opposite wing.

I still have a little bit to go on this before I'm ready to fly it. I am thinking about landing gear for it. With the dual steerable rudder, I should have some ability to drive it on the ground.

I really wish you would post a .pdf for atleast one of your planes. I remember last winter trying to build one of your dual boom planes. The dimensions were all screwy. I looked at your dimensions post as well and was still confused lol. I was trying to build the one you flew into a light post (forget the name of it). I do love scratch building, just wish I was a little better. It seems like scratch builds actually fly better than store bought.

I am a pink foam lover. You don't have to make a wing core hot wire thing. (Which I haven't successfully done yet). I just build up layers, then cut them down with a razor, then use a random orbital sander to get it perfect smooth.

Sorry getting off topic. Make atleast one .pdf for us "challenged" builders !!!!

I wish I could. I am computer stupid. In fact, I don't even make drawings. I just start building an see what I come up with.

The plane you are referring to is my Wraith and despite the post hit, the thing still flies great. This is quite literally an upscaled Wraith. The Wraith flies so well, but can only hold a single battery and I wanted longer flight times, so I built this one. If you want, I can cut you some wing cores and fuselage out of pink foam and mail them to you. I can send you a balsa tail section I have made already. Just pay the shipping and it's on it's way. It takes me less than 5 minutes to cut a set of wings.

    Very nice offer.

Just taking pictures with the measurements or measuring the wing, and fuselage length I think I can figure it out. Maybe.

Sorry I was quite tierd and drunk on the last post.

    12 hours of work
    17 holes of golf
    8 beers
    1/2 5th of scotch

    Pretty wasted

Any ways. I really do appreciate you making me some wings and sending it. But I would much rather learn how to make it myself, so I can tweak it for my style of flying If you can just lay a tape measure down and take some pictures I might be able to figure out the rest.

Anywho. I was going to try something and I am not sure if anyone else has given it a go. I usually strenghten a foam airframe with fiberglass/polyurethane or extreme tape. Which is heavy and expensive. I was thinking about trying to take some pink foam and brushing on some gorrilla glue and sanding it down when it dries. I "think" it will be a very strong lightweight paintable skin, that is super cheap and easy. Not sure, anyone tried this on the whole airframe?
