Make sure the measurements of the green lines in the picture are correct.
This was one of my questions to Alex that i couldnt get my head around for a bit.

Your first turn looks like it may need to be compressed, which if that is the case, Alex said you would compress the first 1/4 turn.

Just make sure that all your measurements are based off the reflector.

    Thanks Greg,

I was just visiting the rcgroups page of helical knowledge, and following the math there, my 5.8GHz signal (wavelength 51.7mm, quarter wavelength is 12.9mm) should have a coil spacing of 12.7mm. (using 2900 / 5.8E3 * 25.4) When I measure the template I get 16.25mm for the coil spacing.

Could the template have printed at the wrong size?

And yes, I do have the whole coil a bit too far away from the reflector. If I understand it right, the coil should be symmetric with the reflector, so that when the signal passes the coils, it's detected once. As the signal hits the reflector it comes back and gets a second chance to vibrate those electrons on the surface of the coil. (only after a reflection, wouldn't the signal have swapped polarization to left handed?)

How does it look? I think I need to get the Hecker just a hair closer to the reflector...
I wouldn't bother. That thing looks awesome!

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.
