it is very easy to make your own antennas, much cheaper too. I fly with a homemade cloverleaf and 3 turn helical.

Rather skilled at making models, building planes etc, not sure where to start with making antennas.. Any links, what's a 3 Turn Helical do?

beam width of the helical is at least 90 degrees- plenty. A helical antenna is sort of like a patch antenna, except it is circularly polarized so it will work with the cloverleaf. If you just want to buy stuff use the stock antenna on the vtx and an 8dbi patch on the vrx.

That won't work. The A9 needs the hitec spectra pro synth module specific to the A9. It's like $50.

No, it wont physically fit in the A9 since the A9 has extra pins in the module bay.
