Thread: DIY headtracker

  1. #11
    Great to see some interest

I can't tell for sure if it will work with ezuhf, but the PPM output is exactly the same as a FF9 transmitter.

By the way, the headtracker supports tilt, pan and roll - so it can also be used for controlling a plane, multirotor etc. instead of a camera. Should be great fun

so pretty much you could make a parrot ar drone but with great range and no video lag.
    very tempting.
    how about throttle though?

elf, you could probably set the throttle to 50% on a plane and forget about it.
How does this device output PPM? I have my dx8 which is a direct connection (via trainer port) to my dragon link. Would this device be put in between the radio and UHF?

At the moment it have to be connected to a transmitter that supports trainer-input. PPM in, PPM channel expansion etc. was originally a part of the project, but as I have been pretty busy lately I decided to focus on the headtracker. The code for PPM in, 1-12 channel PPM out etc. is already done and included - but it have to be fine-tuned a bit. It works just fine running alone, but with the headtracker running the interrupt-timing results in a bit unstable PPM-in readings. Probably an easy fix but just haven't been done. I have quite a few other projects and I don't think I'll finish the extra PPM-features.

I was lucky to be the first tester and i can tel you guys, i don't think you can find a better HT anywhere in the world to day, it don't drift period.

I have being flying a thermal flight with my Easy Glider on nearly 1 1/2 hour with absolutely no drift, several flights more then 1 hour, no drift just steady working like we all want a HT to do.

Reset it before take off, fly, and don't think more about it.

Year - you got the honor to be the guinea pig, and find all the bugs
Luckily it have only been "cosmetic things" and optimisation of user-interface etc. that needed a little fine-adjustment.

I'm glad you still use it, and haven't changed back to your old headtrackers!

I wil newer look back, the old one was allvayes drifting, so you alvayes needed to pay attention to it to not fool me into a crash, now i can just fly and not pay attention to HT anny more.

Dennis, cool project, will definitely build one. A question I got not answered so far: Is it possible to disable a unused axis? I have only pan on my planes and don't want to have tilt and roll injected into the PPM signal.

This is very cool, parts ordered!

I've actually never used a headtracker and just now got my Foxtech AIO googles but I guess I'll build this one and compare. If nothing else I can always equip my older Fatshark aviation goggles with this.
