I'm a member of MMAC (Mills Model Aircraft Club), an AMA-affiliated club, as I live in Medfield and fly at the field in Medfield.

I'm not flying FPV yet; I'm still in the gather equipment together phase.

If I do end up flying FPV at my home field, I'm going to have to stick by AMA rules, which I don't have a problem with while I'm at that field.

I felt comfortable pretty quickly. The field is not too crowded. I rarely have to wait to fly and if so, it's only for a few minutes and only during the busiest hour or two of the morning. The airplane guys come Sat/Sun morning and bug out around lunch. The heli guys come later in the afternoon. You can have the field almost to yourself midday.

They will make new members have check-out flights until they shown a club instructor or officer they can fly. That would have been kind of a pain as that wanted to do it on a buddy box and I didn't have one. But, one of the club instructors happened to have a club trainer set up with a buddy box and let me fly that. I do think most clubs now require some type of check out.

I know there are other clubs around so check all of them and find the best fit. I don't know what you are into. CRRC flies both at the Sudbury field (gliders and electric only) and the Medfield field. Both would be maybe 45 from Watertown. I think there are a couple clubs north of Boston, others south of Boston and west of Boston.

I did mention FPV to a few club members and said I was thinking of getting into it. There's one guy from the other club at the field that flies FPV from time to time and others have checked it out and think it's pretty neat. But I also got a pretty cold reception about FPV when I mentioned it to a couple people. Not about flying FPV at the club per AMA regulations but about people flying wherever and how they may get the hobby banned. Just thought I'd mention it. As far as I know everything allowed via AMA rules is okay at the field and the only additional regs are minor things like hours and such. But, I wouldn't scream "FPV FPV FPV" until I knew who I was talking to.

If you do ever want to check it out, the gate is usually unlocked when the field is busy on weekend mornings. I can't say it's the most convenient place to get to from Watertown but it's not a huge hike, maybe 45 minutes. I've driven my son to soccer games in W'town and know how far it is.

Coordinates of the field are 42.213745 -71.345303 if you want to check it out on Google Earth.
