The customized firmware is one of the main ingredients that makes the Horyzon a very good FPV HD camera.
For $149.99 it may not beat Gopro in image quality but IMHO it comes right behind it.
If by accident you loose control of your Easy Star and hit someone or a car windshield, you will most like not hurt anyone, but a GoPro camera can, like a flying solid stone. While the HoryzonHD has a very small and lightweight camera, and I doubt you can hurt anything with it.
Rather you go with HoryzonHD or GoPro, always keep the safety in mind.
We will always search and research to bring good and new product to make FPV even better!

    Cheers,

One thing about the Gopro vs Horyzon is the lens.. I'm not sure about a replaceable lens on the H HD, but the Gopro replacement lens is $130 shipped.. you can almost buy another Horyzon HD.

You can buy a complete camera head for the HoryzonHD for $40 and that is the complete head unit inc image sensor, lens etc

Would you use this camera as the primary camera on the FPV airplane ? Though this has live out, I doubt if one could rely on this enough to make it the only camera aboard. I really find the cable between the lens and the LCD very prone to getting pulled out or damaged.

Also how is the live out video quality ? Does it handle the sun well ?

Thanks for sharing your experiences !

How can you say that if you haven't got one ?

As far as I'm aware nobody that has one has had that happen, the ribbon cable is extremely tough

As for live video out, it's very similar to the live feed from a GoPro, fantastic in good daylight but crap as the light levels fall off at dusk

I will be fitting my Horyzon camera to my Super Skysurfer but as with this one I would like to fly in low light I will also fit a Pixim Seawolf CCTV camera for the live feed (inside the cockpit if I can)

Well, I have one, and have been using it for onboard recordings only. Have it on my MPX Twinstar.

Also how do you mount it ? I mean, the lens case seems to be made to fit on to something. Well I have mine just taped on the nose, but I figure there should be a better way to mount this out ?

    Re mounting...
It looks as though it's designed for a mount but in truth the head is actually removed from an in car HD DVR (swivel head type), they simply dismantled a DVR and had custom firmware written

I've been using the av out for fpv since I got it. It's worked great. Camera angle is very important though. If it not angled down the image can be allittle on the dark side. But as far as the cable it is very tough. I haven't seen anyone v1 or v2 break one or complain of it pulling out.

I have a video of my Av out on my youtube channel. Johnbrum26 is my channel name. (sorry at work so i can link it at work).

im not really a big whiz at this but wouldnt you want more frames per second for 1080p. if 720p is 60fps, wouldnt 1080p be more. so what do you actually get in fpv, 1080 or 720?
