Making your GOPRO waterproof w/o the heavy case

    Well,

Some might know, I have ditched my plane (again ) into liquid - a small river that looks much more like a sewer. Being a second timer, many things were prepared for the ditch. When I recued my plane, the gopro fell off and spend a good 2 minutes 1 meter underwater ( sh!t ). No, I wasn´t using the original GOPRO casing and YES the gopro is fine.

How can you prepare your gopro for a ditch?

    Simple:

Just TAPE ALL of the seams on your camera. Including buttons, LCD, mic, USB port, video ports, EVERYTHING.

At the time of the ditch, I even had the USB and video out ports open, of course a small amount of water made it in thru those, but wasn´t enough to spoil my parade.

No water made it in the lens housing, but one can also use plastidip or silicone rubber to isolate that spot. ( will do also )

I removed all the tape to open it up but will do it again and post a pic later.

This image was some moments before the dip... Luckily, the battery just died seconds after this shot.

While I like this idea. Me personally I like the case mostly for falls and crashes. Or because I choose to just not fly near or over large bodies of water LOL.

Another way is to cut a hole in a ziplock bag big enough to fit between a layer lens layers. Now your gopro is in a water tight casing. Then you can make crash protection from wood or cloroplast.

    Cool

want waterproof, you need to decase it & soak the entire board in a few coats of WBPU or acrylic.
personally, i hate plasti-dip. i remember when they first started carrying it locally. i used it on all kinds of stuff like it was going out of style. handles on tools to odd stuff like balancing drum sticks. nothing survived long-term.
