Stryker MKII Build Log by Derek_s MAIDENED!

My 1st Stryker met a premature death, so for $20 I had a new body, and though I would document it's build.
UPDATE: I have decided that the reason the 1st one died is that the Lawmate 1W 1280 vtx was just too much for the TLRS NR rx, and caused my glitching at a short distance. A reange check on the new once confirmed a problem, but the BOB 700mw unit showed no issues, so it was used.
I followed closely Bracky's FPV Stryker info, as it seemed to perform well with similar equipment to what I had planned. Google 'FPV Stryker' and you will find his build.

    Update 3/11/11:
Well, it was too windy today to maiden, but I did anyways. She flew pretty well but needed major adjusting to get the reflex and roll trim right. It took about 3 flights of adjusting to get it like I liked, but ended up finding I liked the CG just a hare forward of the recommended for stability. Could have been the wind, though, so on a calm day I may adjust it some.

First we need the $20 foam body. Somebody say cheaaaaap!

Next I did a dry layup of where things should go. The idea hear (from Bracky) is the best physical separation of main systems (Rx, Video, ESC) as possible.

A little cutting an some ply and that is the camera. The idea is that there is no fuse in the frame.

Trim the nose so the cam has protection, but the nose is not visible to the cam.

I like velcro for attaching stuff, so here is the Vtx mount. 1/8" lite ply and strapping velcro.

A stick-mount motor with the GWS adapter. This is just easier than the stock mess. The stick is 3/8 basswood square. I used gorilla glue top foam it in well, and it is light.

The Schrerrer LRS NR 8ch Rx gets mounted here, away from the VTX. I burrowed out a place for it with a dremel. A soldering iron works too. The NR rx is very thin, so the header pins are the only deep part.

Trim these out if you are using a bigger battery, so it can be moved a little for CG.

Ok, everything looks good in a final check. Time to remove for painting. Paint is not a big deal for FPV, but sure makes them easier to find in if you lose them in the woods.

Paint doesnt like to stick to this foam much, so I need to try what I can to influence it. First rough it up with some 220 grit, then clean it with some denatured alcohol.

    Then, paint!

I actually followed your build logs to get an idea. Of course you probably noticed that.

Thanks. I dont like how the orange turned brown over the green, but ehh, I just painted it because it makes them easier to find if they go down...

For about $40 you can have all the foam, you just need electonics... Quite a value.
