Here's version two of the cardboard mock-up. There are a couple of skid versions. One is just like the rite wing originals - curving around the foam contours. The other is a sandwich of an original and one which butts up to the back plate.

This version also shows how the fpv cam will mount to the back plate. All seems to fit ok, so will send the parts to be lasercut from mdf.

That looks sweet! I'll be looking out for your ponoko store once it's up!

Just had a look at setting up a ponoko shop - the USA manufacturing hub has different materials/sizes to the UK (typical).

I'd originally hoped to have all the required parts, for a battery tray box/bulkhead, skids and camera mount, on a single sheet of mdf or ply, but looks like i'll have to split it into smaller groups.

They will, however, all fit on a sheet of 3.2mm delrin, which would be as hard as nails, but cost will be around $95(!) with me making $zero.

I need to have a finished working version made here first so i can build it and prove it works.

Lasercut parts arrived today, along with another TBS69, so should have the camera mount built later…

How did you get the parts laser cut? I am kicking myself as I use to have access to all these pieces of equipment at my last job, and never had any need to use them. Did you just use SolidWorks (or other like software), and send the files off to some local company?

Designed the parts in adobe illustrator CS 5.5 - 2d vector illustration package.

Printed them out on A4 paper and glued to cardboard to make test versions - changes were made to these mock-ups with pen and scissors. When i had ones which worked i simply scanned the parts and used them as templates to redraw over.

Absolutely no need to overcomplicate the job with solidworks.

Sent these files off for lasercutting to the UK arm of Ponoko.com - cut areas are set to a single rgb colour (blue) at 0.01pt line thickness. Three days later i have them here.

If it works and people like it, i'll have more cut…

Looks great pling. I'd love to see more detailed pics of how you've mounted the flight camera in there, maybe pics from the top/bottom if possible. I'm having trouble coming up with a reasonable method.

Here are some more detailed pics of how the fpv camera is attached.

M3 cap head bolts and Ettinger M3 threaded nylon stand-offs hold the faceplate/camera to the back plate.

I swapped the M2 bolts in the TBS69 for longer ones to mount the camera to the faceplace.

I should have a new clear acrylic faceplace in the next day or so - this will have the same holes as the TBS dicso faceplate, which will let me attached the camera via the two M2 holes in it's lens mount.
