    FPV Thunderking

A friend had this old truck laying around in need of some minor repairs. I patched it up and threw some FPV gear on it for some fun on windy days.

It's a Tamiya/MRC Thunderking. It's somewhere between 1/10th and 1/8th scale. It has a big, nearly flat aluminum chassis. Great for strapping extra stuff on.

Here's a vid from a camping trip we took a couple months ago.

I'm pretty happy with the picture stability with the camera mount I threw together. I think the oil is long gone from the front shocks, so it'll probably get better after a shock rebuild.

Eventually. Luckily traffic moves pretty slow in there.

Sure. It's all stuff I borrowed from my quadcopter. Most of it came from readymaderc.

    VTx is 300mW 1280MHz with a cloverleaf.
Skewplanar and 3 turn helical diversity setup on the receiving end.
    RC is dragonlink

Video link was pretty solid in the vid above. Only got sketchy when I had a bunch of trees or earth in the way. Probably has a lot more range in an open area.

    update

I've had so much fun terrorizing campgrounds with this thing this summer that I decided it was worthy of some more investment.

I was getting tired of swapping parts from my qaud to the truck and back, so I'm going to try this 1.5w vtx as a dedicated truck tx.

I also worked up a "custom" battery retention system.

I also earned a free dragonlink rx, so one can stay dedicated to the truck.

Hope to do a range test this weekend!

Way cool. This makes me want to try something using my APM as a brain.
