That would be a very interesting test... Personally for me CW antennas are a gold standard. I would like these to have a slightly more solid (yet flexible) shaft though, looks a bit odd as it is... Might pick one up to test on my quad though.

They are actually made with a stamping process and a forming die which 'stamps' each antenna out of a sheet of metal and subsequently forms it into an identical shape, as a result tolerances are very, very tightly controlled and performance is identical for each antenna, i.e. these are not made with steel wire and a soldering jig.
Linear polarized then? and skew planar reception?

    I think you've misunderstood something...

They are both CP antennas. To use one linear and one CP would make little sense.

well that one on page 429 is linear polarized, omnidirectional in the horizontal. but he did say it was based off of that design, not that design specifically. Appears to be a Smith design http://www.google.com/patents/US2521550

The Skew Planar is an old invention, but claiming that the cloverleaf on page 429 of that 1950 book is the same as Alex's is incorrect. I bet they are using a copy of Alex's, which is pretty crappy of them but predictable.

    Thanks guys...

    1. Since a couple of weeks ago SPW58s are supplied with flexible mast, instead of the previous rigid one:

    2. Knowing Sander, I have no doubt his antennas will be totally perfect. Choosing one vendor or another it is going to be a question of price and personal preferences about the different looks.

    3. I believe there is some confusion about Cloverleaf - Skew Planar Wheel. Cloverleaf is a 3 lobe version of the SPW, which comes from the 50s (the SPW), developed by Alex (IBCrazy). Sander's are SPWs, both for transmitter and receiver.

P.S. Sander, do I need to remind you my address...?

You must've misunderstood, I'm not making any claims of that nature, I'm merely pointing out that a 'cloverleaf' is not a novel concept.

Again, you must've misunderstood, they are not a copy of Alex's, they're different is just about any aspect that is of importance to the antenna (geometry, material used, manufacturing process, etc.). The only thing they have in common is the shape, which is not a novelty as I already outlined above.

The transmission antenna is a skew-planar with 3 elements then?

Sander would it be possible to get photos of the antennas minus the neat little housings?
Yeah I broke it. But I have Duck tape so its ok.
