I have put cameras on Nitro planes, problem I had is the motor vibration makes the video shaky unless you are very good at balance and vibration dampening. I would recommend an electric for FPV at least to start, get a cheap plane like a bixler. As for snow on the ground reflection, it does not interfere with the video signal but can cause your camera to wash out from overexposure and make the image not very usable, a decent camera with good setting helps a lot. We have had good luck with the pz0420 cams, setting are in this thread probably a 1000 pages back...
Thanks for the input, i figured vibration would be an issue even with balanced props/spinners and such. Gonna have to find a pnp electric to start out and go from there. Im thinking a cub of some sort, big cabin so i can put the camera in the cockpit I feel this will help with orientation with the airframe as Ive flown full scale and it might feel more farmiliar to me. Now any advise in terms of convincing my girlfriend to let me open my FPV gear/ christmas gift early? I can hardly wait!

Blackdog, after watching you take the double-shot, and all the lips that touched the bottle before yours, never before has your pseudonym 'ischemic dongle' been more appropriate!

Piscaj - nice pics! Hopefully you brought back some warm weather with you.

brc450 - Welcome! As usual, Bender hit the nail on the head. Great advice, there.

OK, so reading the CO spec wing discussion. I have a question. I had planned on using 50mw 900MHz Tx just so we can fly more planes at the same time. I realize this isn't a real serious race... yet, but is that OK?

I hadn't thought about the antenna drag advantage/disadvantage

Use LP antenna and I think it would be good.

    Kayak,
That should work, however you'll want a CP antenna on the receiving side...and that will indeed be large. Lots of banking in the races, and with a LP antenna on both ends. IIRC, its something like a -26dB loss if the receiving and transmitting antennas are orientated 90 to one-another. With CP on one end, the loss is like -3dB.

Inverted Virginia antenna could help. Not sure a CP antenna on the rx would make a positive difference as the problem with LP and orientation is with the nulls on the transmitting side. .. but I guess polarization horizontally would be better with a CP on the rx now that I think of it. So maybe will is right. Or you could use a patch on the rx it does not care about polarization much.

I'm not worried about how to do it. We are only going a few hundred yards. I just didn't want to violate any "specness" of the race.

Wuh? You think one of these might create some drag, LOL:

900 works fine on my mini with Inverted Vee on vTX and Crosshair on vRX in the race field. My CP antenna on vRX works well too.
