Between 4 and 8 Km, depending on the RF ambient.

I have the same problem with my helicals. They break in shipment... I can think of a few good designs for your antenna using cut plexiglass if you want the help. Mind you, I'd change your match to a microstrip or gamma match rather than the Hecker.

Big thank you for your kind offering. I have next Wednesday a brainstorm lunch with my University mates to decide the way to go. Foldable concepts, changing to a totally new design, plexiglass cut as you suggested... Any suggestion is welcome.

I agree with you about the Hecker, but mainly because we break too many bits cutting the baluns. Copper sheet and CNC cut do not work well together, and we don't have such a big volume to pay for the stamping mold, which would be the proper way to go.

I was looking in detail each single incoming order, as there was only one HELIAXIAL12 left in stock since a couple of hours ago, and I wanted to delete it from the product list in the web as soon as it get sold.

This just happened now, and I have removed it from the website.

These helicals have got some problems for us, and we have decided to not produce them anymore. The reasons are:

1. They cost us a fortune (the Plexiglas bars and the aluminium reflector, which are CNC mechanized are really expensive, even ordering 100 sets at the time). The margin is just a joke.

2. They are a pain to stock, to move around and to ship.

3. They are relatively fragile (the Plexiglas bars mainly).

4. At 1.2GHz, with SPW on the transmitter and receiver, you can easily achieve 15-20Km. So to be honest, very few people really need this helical (but we have sold a lot of them, I suppose thanks to Roberto’s world record flight…).

So, when building the last batch from the remaining stock of single parts, and 7 of them get broken, this was the last drop, and we decided to stop producing them. I am working in a new version, foldable, easier to ship and cheaper to build, but I don’t believe it will be available before October.

Catamar was the first one to cross the 30Km frontier with Circular Polarization. Now he is specialising on flying far and low. He is at something like 10Km and 5m height...

I am lost... the ones sent to Mongrel Gear where 5.8GHz, not 1.2GHz. No plans to discontinue the 5.8GHz ones...

15km with a SPW? I lose video around 5km with a bluebeam set, and get nasty video breaks even as close as 2km... But then again I also live somewhere where the average relative humidity is 90 to 100%... I am guessing that has a LOT to do with it.
