Thread: 3D printing

Now that's a way more worthwhile use of 3d printing than the ar-15 parts. Very cool!

We print our quad and there are just things you cant do with molds like variable density fills. If engineered properly it is amazing!

Impressive, is it a commercial machine or a homebuilt?

FlMuPhi198 your quad looks awesome. Sounds like you got your own 3D printer but if this was done with shapeways Im sure it would of cost around £500.

It was about $1800 worth of printing, The printing was done by Boeing but it was designed by a student in our robotics lab at embry riddle for an autonomous indoor vehicle competition.

So I guess the main expense was the material? Could it be compared to "Strong & Flexible Plastic" from Shapeways?

It is made from pcabs and is designed to be rigid but not brittle. It is a really really tough quad and it is actually 6 parts, 4 of which are identical interlocking stators so if one is damaged it can be replaced really quickly
